Op zaterdag 18 juli 2009 bezocht 4Aviation de Royal International Air Tattoo op Fairford per bus. De bussen vertrokken stipt om 19.00 uur uit Utrecht om vervolgens de overige passagiers in Breda op te pikken. Na een soepel vervolg van de reis stonden we ruim op tijd bij de poorten van het vliegveld.

Ondanks dat de omvang van de show een stuk beperkter was dan eerdere edities, mag de Royal International Air Tattoo nog steeds de titel ‘grootste militaire vliegshow ter wereld’ met trots dragen. Een enorme static display, gecombineerd met een grote vliegshow, maken het evenement altijd de moeite waard voor luchtvaartenthousiasten.

De interessantste deelnemers van deze editie waren ongetwijfeld de Algerijnse Hercules, de Nieuw-Zeelandse Boeing 757 en de Braziliaanse C295. Daarnaast waren, zoals altijd, heel veel types van de USAF en de RAF vertegenwoordigd. Een ander hoogtepunt was ook de show van de enige nog vliegende Vulcan ter wereld.

Het weer heeft de hele dag redelijk meegewerkt. Af en toe was de bewolking wat dreigend, maar het heeft geen druppel geregend.

Na een hele dag vertoeven op het terrein van de vliegshow keerden de bijna 100 deelnemers tegen 19.00 uur weer terug naar de bus voor de terugreis. Ook deze terugreis verliep vlot, zodat iedereen op zondagmorgen weer volgens de oorspronkelijke planning netjes in Breda of Utrecht kon worden afgezet.

On Saturday 18 July 2009. 4Aviation visited the Royal International Air Tattoo at Fairford by coach. The coaches departed Utrecht at 19.00 sharp, on their way to Breda to pick up the rest of the passengers. After a smooth continuation of the trip, we arrived at the gates of the air base well in time.

Despite the fact that the show was smaller than previous editions, the Royal International Air Tattoo can still carry the title ‘largest military air show in the world’ with pride. A huge static display, combined with a large air display, always make the event worthwhile for aviation enthusiasts.

The most interesting participants of this year’s edition were, without a doubt, the Algerian Hercules, the Boeing 757 from New Zealand and the Brazilian C295. Apart from that a large number of types of the USAF and RAF were present, as they always are. Another highlight also was the display of the last remaining Vulcan in the world.

The weather proved very cooperative during the day. Despite the sometimes darker clouds in the sky, not a single drop of rain came down.

After spending the entire day at the premises of the event, the nearly 100 participants returned to the busses around 19.00 for the journey home. This return leg was also uneventful, resulting in everybody being brought back to Breda or Utrecht on target.
