Voor vandaag stond weer de vierde 4Aviation USA trip van het jaar op het programma. Een gedenkwaardige dag vandaag, 9\/11, alweer 15 jaar geleden dat onder andere de Twin Towers werden getroffen. Negen personen had zich op tijd verzameld bij de bekende rood\/witte zuil op Schiphol voor de reis die in het teken zou staan van PhanCon 2016 op Holloman AFB. De vlucht van Schiphol naar Chicago O\u2019Hare ging met een Boeing 767-322ER van United Airlines. Na een voorspoedige vlucht moesten we overstappen richting Phoenix, onze eindbestemming. Dit ging met een A320-232 van United Airlines. Op Phoenix aangekomen was het eerst weer even wennen aan de warmte. Snel de auto\u2019s opgehaald en met twee auto\u2019s op weg naar ons motel in Tucson voor de eerste overnachting.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<section class='av_tab_section av_tab_section av-av_tab-e4137c68b083d94167d2925822c20459'  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div id='tab-id-2-tab' class='tab' role='tab' aria-selected=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\" data-fake-id='#tab-id-2' aria-controls='tab-id-2-content'  itemprop=\"headline\" >12 september 2016<\/div><div id='tab-id-2-content' class='tab_content' role='tabpanel' aria-labelledby='tab-id-2-tab' aria-hidden=\"true\"><div class='tab_inner_content invers-color'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Omdat de 162nd FW op Tucson avondvliegen had, besloten we om ons geluk op maandag 12 september in de landing op Davis Monthan AFB te beproeven. Gelukkig vlogen ze hier wel met A-10C\u2019s en EC-130H\u2019s. Drie deelnemers kozen ervoor om tussendoor de bustour over AMARG te doen. Ook het immense Pima-museum werd door een enkeling met een bezoek vereerd. Na de bustour verzamelde iedereen zich weer in de landing op Davis Monthan. Vanuit daar vertrokken we naar ons hotel in Alamogordo, een rit van ruim vijf uur plus nog een uur tijdsverschil. Nadat we op tijd in Alamogordo aangekomen waren hebben we ons diezelfde avond nog ingecheckt bij de organisatie van PhanCon 2016. Ook de eerste T-shirts en emblemen werden al gescoord.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<section class='av_tab_section av_tab_section av-av_tab-d17133b7167bb4b086606cf54a19aa91'  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div id='tab-id-3-tab' class='tab' role='tab' aria-selected=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\" data-fake-id='#tab-id-3' aria-controls='tab-id-3-content'  itemprop=\"headline\" >13 september 2016<\/div><div id='tab-id-3-content' class='tab_content' role='tabpanel' aria-labelledby='tab-id-3-tab' aria-hidden=\"true\"><div class='tab_inner_content invers-color'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Dinsdag (13 september) was de eerste dag van PhanCon 2016 op Holloman AFB. We gingen met de bus vanaf het hotel in Alamogordo naar de vliegbasis. Hier volgden uiteraard de nodige veiligheidschecks en daarna door naar het einde van de baan om de take-off van QF-4E\u2019s te fotograferen. Een aantal op Holloman gestationeerde Duitse Tornado\u2019s en 311th FS\/56th FW F-16CM\/DM\u2019s gingen hen voor. Veel kisten bleven gelukkig laag en trokken hun kist mooi boven ons weg. Achteraf bleek dat veel vliegers niet eens op de hoogte waren, dat er fotografen aan de baan zouden staan.\u00a0 De take-off van twee QF-4E\u2019s was erg gaaf en ze bleven lekker laag. Toen de tweede take-off ging kwam de eerste er heel laag overheen gescheurd. Wat een gave bak herrie. Ook de sonic booms waren zeer indrukwekkend. Boven Holloman AFB en White Sands mag dit nog ongestoord gebeuren en daar wordt dan ook gepast gebruik van gemaakt. Nadat de twee QF-4E\u2019s waren geland gingen we met de bus naar de MQ-1\/MQ-9\u2019s waarvan er drie in de hangaar voor ons waren neergezet. Deze konden gefotografeerd worden en we kregen een uitleg. Helaas mochten de A-4\u2019s, L-39\u2019s en F-5 van Draken International niet gefotografeerd worden (alleen de drie UAV\u2019s). Na de lunch werd een bezoek gebracht aan de QF-4E\u2019s. Er stonden er 12 buiten en \u00e9\u00e9n voor onderhoud in de hangaar. Van de twaalf die er buiten stonden waren er minimaal drie al buiten dienst gesteld (schade was duidelijk zichtbaar en\/of ze werden voor onderdelen gebruikt). De Phantoms stonden er mooi fotogeniek bij. Tussen de kisten stond ook de 72-0166. Dit is de kist die de laatste onbemande QF-4 vlucht heeft gemaakt. Een F-35 heeft twee AIM-120\u2019s op deze QF-4E afgeschoten maar de kist kwam gewoon weer terug naar Holloman AFB. Toch apart om deze kist even te \u2018omhelzen\u2019. Wees nu eerlijk, toch zonde om zo\u2019n mooie kist neer te schieten en als een hoop schroot te laten eindigen\u2026 Na dit hoogtepunt (hier ging het ten tenslotte tijdens deze reis om), nog een hangaar bezocht van White Sands Missile Range; binnen stond een aantal UH-1\u2019s, een UH-60A en een C-12R. Op het platform mochten de bezoekende kisten niet gefotografeerd worden; hier stonden behoorlijk wat Blackhawks van de US Army en diverse fighters van testeenheden (F-15, F-16 en A-10\u2019s). Na dit bezoek weer met de bus naar de andere kant van het veld en hier het heritage park bezocht. Hier staan diverse leuke kisten mooi in het zonnetje klaar om mooi gefotografeerd te worden. Ook werd het tijd voor de bekende groepsfoto voor een\u2026 F-4D. Deze F-4D is in markings van een MiG-21(D) killer. De piloot van de kill destijds was ook op deze PhanCon aanwezig en heeft voor ons nog diverse posters gesigneerd. Na dit bezoek weer terug naar het hotel en \u2019s avonds met de Society nog een buffet bijgewoond. \u2019s Avonds in het hotel was er nog tijd en gelegenheid om posters te laten signeren en diverse emblemen en T-shirts te kopen. Het einde van een superdag met veel gave Phantoms!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<section class='av_tab_section av_tab_section av-av_tab-7fe29185c953303d7cd558980608b0a4'  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div id='tab-id-4-tab' class='tab' role='tab' aria-selected=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\" data-fake-id='#tab-id-4' aria-controls='tab-id-4-content'  itemprop=\"headline\" >14 september 2016<\/div><div id='tab-id-4-content' class='tab_content' role='tabpanel' aria-labelledby='tab-id-4-tab' aria-hidden=\"true\"><div class='tab_inner_content invers-color'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Woensdag 14 september; net als gisteren weer verzamelen bij het hotel en met de bus het veld op. Na wat wachten door naar de landing van Holloman AFB. Helaas geen plek langs de roller om de terugkomende QF-4E\u2019s met chute te fotograferen. Zelf hadden we een leuke plek gevonden maar dit was voor de organisatie niet bespreekbaar. Wederom gingen twee QF-4E\u2019s take-off (\u00e9\u00e9n andere ten opzichte van gisteren). Ook de sonic booms waren weer onderdeel van het programma. Gelukkig zagen we ook nog andere kisten, die vertrokken of binnenkwamen, waaronder een T-38C van 586th TSS in een grijs\/wit kleurenschema. Leuk! Nadat de QF-4E\u2019s waren geland, vertrokken we met de bus naar het 314th FS waar men \u00e9\u00e9n F-16CM in de hangaar had gezet. Deze mocht vanuit alle hoeken worden gefotografeerd. Buiten mocht helaas weer niets worden gefotografeerd terwijl er genoeg F-16\u2019s vlogen! Na dit bezoek gingen we weer lunchen en daarna weer naar het QF-4 platform bij 53rd Wing\/82nd ATRS. Helaas was er meer bewolking dan gisteren en waren er twee bussen met mensen aanwezig met als gevolg dat er overal mensen voor en achter de kisten liepen. Met een beetje geduld waren er nog wel leuke plaatjes te maken, maar op deze manier ging de beperkte tijd die we hadden wel erg snel voorbij. Na dit bezoek gingen we naar het Duitse contigent op Holloman. Hier kregen wij een briefing over de geschiedenis van de Duitse Luchtmacht op Holloman. In 2019 komt een einde aan hun aanwezigheid en gaat de Tornado-opleiding geheel naar Duitsland. De Tornado\u2019s komen dan weer terug naar Duitsland (Schleswig). Helaas konden we de Duitse Tornado\u2019s niet bezoeken. Zoals eerder gezegd, het zijn geen spottersdagen en af en toe moesten we elkaar hieraan herinneren. Een gevolg van het korte middagprogramma was dat we weer op tijd bij ons hotel waren. In verband met het korte programma voor de dag erna (alleen groepsfoto) en het feit dat wij op die donderdag ook weer terug moesten rijden naar Tucson, hebben we in overleg met de organisatie besloten om morgen niet meer naar PhanCon te gaan, maar op tijd naar Tucson te vertrekken. Na de organisatie uitvoerig te hebben bedankt zijn we naar ons hotel vertrokken. Iedereen kon terug zien op een platform met twaalf QF-4E\u2019s, waarvan drie verschillende vliegend. Vandaag zouden ze nog gaan avondvliegen, dus ze begonnen \u2019s middags pas met vliegen. Helaas werd de baan vlak na onze komst gedraaid. Toch konden we nog wel een paar leuke take-off plaatjes maken. Daarna ons geluk in de landing beproefd. Na wat zoeken konden we de plek in de landing terugvinden en konden we onder andere een paar Irakese F-16C\/D\u2019s mooi fotograferen. Tevens hadden we afspraken bij Double Eagle Aviation gemaakt in verband met vluchten boven het AMARG en Pima Museum. Dit zouden wij zaterdag doen, maar dan zou er niemand aanwezig zijn, dus werd het vrijdagochtend voor 2 personen en \u2018s middags twee missies (2 x 2 personen). De eerste twee personen werden \u2019s ochtends al vroeg naar Double Eagle Aviation gebracht en de rest ging later de gestationeerde 162nd FW Vipers fotograferen. Gelukkig vlogen ze vandaag \u2019s ochtends en \u2019s middags. Omdat er goed werd gevlogen en op Davis Monthan weinig vliegactiviteiten te zien waren, werd besloten om op Tucson te blijven. De Irakezen vlogen wederom en het weer was wederom schitterend.\u00a0 In de loop van de middag gingen nog vier personen vliegen. Er was verder weinig activiteit, dus besloten we om na ongeveer een uur naar het museum op Mesa Falcon Field te gaan. Het museum was net gesloten voordat wij arriveerden, maar men liet ons na wat onderhandelen toch binnen en zodoende konden we alles lekker rustig fotograferen. Daarna nog even om het veld gereden. Er stond nog een aantal Britse Canberra\u2019s buiten opgeslagen. Daarna via de KC-135R\u2019s van 197th ARS\/AZ ANG naar ons hotel in Phoenix. \u2019s Avonds met ons allen lekker gegeten en de trip ge\u00ebvalueerd. Het zat er alweer bijna op. Zo\u2019n weekje gaat erg snel voorbij.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<section class='av_tab_section av_tab_section av-av_tab-69ef49e33094da94659381d20394a9b0'  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div id='tab-id-8-tab' class='tab' role='tab' aria-selected=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\" data-fake-id='#tab-id-8' aria-controls='tab-id-8-content'  itemprop=\"headline\" >18\/19 september 2016<\/div><div id='tab-id-8-content' class='tab_content' role='tabpanel' aria-labelledby='tab-id-8-tab' aria-hidden=\"true\"><div class='tab_inner_content invers-color'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Op zondag 18 september reden we op tijd naar het vliegveld van Phoenix. Twee van de groep vlogen via Houston terug naar Schiphol en de rest via Chicago O\u2019Hare. Beide vluchten verliepen voorspoedig. Zodoende landde iedereen (op maandag 19 september inmiddels) ruim op tijd op Schiphol. Na de bagage te hebben opgehaald ging een ieder weer tevreden met een groot aantal gigabytes op weg naar huis.<\/p>\n<p>Dit was de laatste keer was, dat we in de States het enige nog operationele squadron met Phantoms actief bezig hebben gezien en hebben kunnen bewonderen. In December 2016 zullen de laatste QF-4E\u2019s buiten gebruik worden gesteld en als target op de diverse ranges rond Holloman AFB worden gedropt. Ook de demo QF-4E\u2019s, die de afgelopen jaren tijdens airshows en open dagen de show stalen, zullen we niet meer zien\u2026 The End of an Era\u2026 Pharewell
