Met 19 man op stap vanaf Amsterdam. Nummer 20 van de groep zou zich in Dulles bij ons voegen. De vlucht verliep voorspoedig en al snel was de groep compleet en konden de vier auto\u2019s opgehaald worden. Vlak voor het hotel nog even naar het lokale vliegveld om daar nog een extra huurauto voor morgen op te halen. Drie van de groep zouden op 23 april niet naar de show op Langley AFB gaan maar op nummertjesjacht gaan. Het was inmiddels al laat dus een bedje was erg welkom.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<section class='av_tab_section av_tab_section av-av_tab-e3fb3ebf3426b30fb46fcaf0c1ec6e65'  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div id='tab-id-2-tab' class='tab' role='tab' aria-selected=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\" data-fake-id='#tab-id-2' aria-controls='tab-id-2-content'  itemprop=\"headline\" >23 april 2016<\/div><div id='tab-id-2-content' class='tab_content' role='tabpanel' aria-labelledby='tab-id-2-tab' aria-hidden=\"true\"><div class='tab_inner_content invers-color'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Zaterdag (23 april) stond de open dag van Langley AFB op het programma. We konden vrij gemakkelijk en snel het veld op en dichtbij de ramp parkeren. Van tevoren waren perspassen geregeld maar deze waren nog niet voorradig. Na een kleine controle mochten we toch de ramp op, althans waar de open dag werd gehouden. Omdat er nog weinig bezoekers waren konden we al snel de meeste kisten zonder mensen ervoor, erop of eronder fotograferen. Ook de kisten die voorvlogen waren goed te fotograferen. Helaas begon het \u2019s middags te regenen en onweren met als gevolg dat tegen drie uur de gehele show werd afgelast. Dit was net op het moment dat de F-22A, F-35A en de Thunderbirds zouden gaan vliegen. Gelukkig hadden we de dag erop nog. Nadat iedereen bij de auto verzameld was zijn we naar Norfolk gereden. Na enig zoeken vonden wij een parkeergarage waar vanaf de vele E-2\u2019s, C-2A\u2019s en SH-60\u2019s konden worden gezien. Een P-3C Orion op het platform kon nog mooi even worden meegenomen. In Norfolk gaan eten en daarna terug naar ons hotel en buiten gezamenlijk nog wat gedronken. Later op de avond de drie nummertjesspotters weer bij het lokale vliegveld opgehaald. Ook zij hadden een leuke dag gehad met ruim 1.000 kilometers achter de kiezen (door verschillende staten).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<section class='av_tab_section av_tab_section av-av_tab-62e9586e2476c6df1039fdb00baf9f5b'  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div id='tab-id-3-tab' class='tab' role='tab' aria-selected=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\" data-fake-id='#tab-id-3' aria-controls='tab-id-3-content'  itemprop=\"headline\" >24 april 2016<\/div><div id='tab-id-3-content' class='tab_content' role='tabpanel' aria-labelledby='tab-id-3-tab' aria-hidden=\"true\"><div class='tab_inner_content invers-color'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Zondag 24 april; Langley AFB Open Dag in de herkansing. Nu met stralend weer maar wel koud.\u00a0 De controles waren iets strenger dan de dag ervoor maar we kwamen er weer op en konden op dezelfde parkeerplaats bij de ramp parkeren. De kisten die we gisteren niet goed hadden gingen er vandaag wel goed op, inclusief het voorvliegen van de F-22A, F-35A en de Thunderbirds. Wij hadden een aparte \u2018persplaats\u2019 voor het hek, schuin tegenover de Thunderbirds. We stonden bij het uittaxi\u00ebn wel erg dichtbij\u2026 Na de Thunderbirds-show op ons gemak naar de auto gelopen en daarna nog enkele museumkisten op het veld kunnen fotograferen.\u00a0 Hierna wederom een stop op de parkeergarage bij Norfolk. Een E-2C was aan het proefdraaien en een C-2A Greyhound kwam door middel van een kabellanding binnen. Op het platform was de P-3C inmiddels niet meer alleen; een Duitse A310 stond ernaast. Na een paar foto\u2019s te hebben gemaakt kregen we toch wel in de gaten dat wij hier niet echt welkom waren en zijn we maar weer gegaan. De volgende stop was ons hotel in Virginia Beach. Een mooi hotel vlak aan zee. Het was weer een lange maar leuke dag.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<section class='av_tab_section av_tab_section av-av_tab-5bd0dc8b0c9be9c4f69366118693f3c4'  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div id='tab-id-4-tab' class='tab' role='tab' aria-selected=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\" data-fake-id='#tab-id-4' aria-controls='tab-id-4-content'  itemprop=\"headline\" >25 april 2016<\/div><div id='tab-id-4-content' class='tab_content' role='tabpanel' aria-labelledby='tab-id-4-tab' aria-hidden=\"true\"><div class='tab_inner_content invers-color'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Op maandagmorgen (25 april) tegen half negen naar de landing van NAS Oceana gereden. We hadden de juiste plek al snel gevonden en na de eerste landingen even de plek verbeterd om de vele Hornets die hier te zien zijn op de foto vastleggen. Het was vandaag korte broeken weer. Mooi weer en heel druk met Hornets. Wat wil je nog meer. Tegen een uur of vier naar de andere kant van de baan gegaan in verband met de stand van de zon. Gelukkig lag \u00e9\u00e9n baan eruit dus men gebruikte er maar \u00e9\u00e9n. Tot een uur of half acht gebleven en toen ging het licht uit. De Hornets bleven echter druk doorvliegen en dat konden we ook goed rond ons hotel zien en vooral horen.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<section class='av_tab_section av_tab_section av-av_tab-81a70021ee665b0bbdb1c20aa06ef658'  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div id='tab-id-5-tab' class='tab' role='tab' aria-selected=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\" data-fake-id='#tab-id-5' aria-controls='tab-id-5-content'  itemprop=\"headline\" >26 april 2016<\/div><div id='tab-id-5-content' class='tab_content' role='tabpanel' aria-labelledby='tab-id-5-tab' aria-hidden=\"true\"><div class='tab_inner_content invers-color'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Op dinsdag 26 april hetzelfde recept als gisteren maar dan iets eerder begonnen. Drie auto\u2019s vertrokken naar de landing op Oceana en \u00e9\u00e9n auto naar het vliegtuigmuseum in Virginia Beach, gevolgd door een boottocht door de haven. Meteen na de middag gingen twee auto\u2019s naar het vliegtuigmuseum in Virginia Beach. Een leuk museum met een hele leuke priv\u00e9-collectie van vooral Tweede Wereldoorlog vliegtuigen waaronder een aantal originele Russische. Men was hier erg relaxt en na de tour mochten we nog even blijven om het opstarten en taxi\u00ebn van een Britse Spitfire mee te maken en vast te leggen. Tegen vier uur weer terug op NAS Oceana om daar nog het Hornet geweld mee te pakken. De haventoer groep kwam vlak daarna zodat iedereen weer compleet was. Iedereen had wederom een leuke dag gehad. Na twee dagen bij Oceana ruim 90 verschillende Hornets gezien! We zijn gebleven tot dat het nachtfotografie werd. Sommigen van ons waagden zich hier nog aan. Het was met ruim 30 graden een warme dag vandaag.\u00a0 Op tijd naar bed want morgen moesten we weer op tijd eruit.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<section class='av_tab_section av_tab_section av-av_tab-42a9a33d3ab5d54b7ce49d28ffc9caff'  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div id='tab-id-6-tab' class='tab' role='tab' aria-selected=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\" data-fake-id='#tab-id-6' aria-controls='tab-id-6-content'  itemprop=\"headline\" >27 april 2016<\/div><div id='tab-id-6-content' class='tab_content' role='tabpanel' aria-labelledby='tab-id-6-tab' aria-hidden=\"true\"><div class='tab_inner_content invers-color'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Voor woensdag 27 april was een basisbezoek bij de USCG op CGAS Elizabeth City geregeld. De verwachting was dat dit een kort bezoek zou worden en we al snel naar Seymour Johnson door konden rijden. Dat ging iets anders. Onze gastheren waren zeer behulpzaam en alles kon. Na de eerste foto\u2019s op de ramp van de eerste HC-130J\u2019s en MH-60T (in speciaal geel jubileum jasje in verband met 100 jaar USCG), kregen we een briefing over de taken van de USCG en vooral de USCG op Elizabeth City.\u00a0 Een leuke briefing inclusief een zelfgemaakte film van diverse missies. Na de briefing de ramp op en alles kon gefotografeerd worden; in totaal zagen we vijf van de zes HC-130J\u2019s,\u00a0 een net afgeleverde C-27J (C-144A aanduiding bij de USCG),\u00a0 nog voorzien van het USAF kleurenschema en 4 MH-60T\u2019s. In de tussentijd kwamen ook nog twee E-2C\u2019sen een C-2A touch and go\u2019s maken. Na de groepsfoto te hebben gemaakt afscheid genomen en via de gate guards en drie MH-47G\u2019s die aan de zijkant van het veld stonden, op weg naar Seymour Johnson. De rit naar dit fighterveld is erg leuk; alles binnendoor. Je ziet dan zoveel van het land. Toen we op Seymour Johnson aankwamen zagen wij een paar F-15E\u2019s in de landing. Tegen de tijd dat wij onze plek hadden gevonden was het echter angstvallig stil. Zou dit te maken hebben met de E-4B die hier op alert stond? De plaatselijke burgerwacht van 70+ dacht een terroristencel te hebben opgerold en al snel werd de politie en de veiligheidsdienst van de basis gebeld\u2026 al snel kregen wij diverse politiediensten en andere veiligheidsdiensten op bezoek en bijna allemaal tegelijk\u2026 Na diverse checks en het laten lezen van onze email correspondentie met Public Affairs mochten we uiteindelijk blijven staan. We hadden inmiddels een goede spot gevonden tegenover de verkeerstoren. Net toen we besloten weg te gaan werden de eerste Eagles opgestart. Uiteindelijk gingen er nog 9 F-15E\u2019s uit. Helaas was het erg droog en de plaatselijke boer vond het nodig om het weiland waar wij stonden met zijn tractor te bewerken zodat een aantal vertrekkende Eagles in zand opgingen\u2026 Tegen zes uur vertrokken naar ons hotel in Florence. Rond tien uur \u2019s avonds daar aangekomen.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<section class='av_tab_section av_tab_section av-av_tab-663f3e7df82c4242f3e085358d4fc288'  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div id='tab-id-7-tab' class='tab' role='tab' aria-selected=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\" data-fake-id='#tab-id-7' aria-controls='tab-id-7-content'  itemprop=\"headline\" >28 april 2016<\/div><div id='tab-id-7-content' class='tab_content' role='tabpanel' aria-labelledby='tab-id-7-tab' aria-hidden=\"true\"><div class='tab_inner_content invers-color'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Donderdag 28 april was de grote split-up dag; twee auto\u2019s gingen via McEntire naar de USS Yorktown\u00a0 en twee auto\u2019s naar Shaw AFB en vanuit daar naar McEntire ANGB met uiteindelijk Charleston AFB als eindbestemming. Helaas vlogen er maar twee F-16CM\u2019s vanaf Shaw en op McEntire was het nog stiller; niets. Het bezoek aan de USS Yorktown was echter zeer de moeite waard. Het is niet alleen de carrier maar ook het Vietnam-gedeelte eromheen met allerlei voertuigen en helikopters. Gelukkig zat het weer overdag ook mee. Tegen de avond begon het echter behoorlijk te regenen en te onweren. We hadden bij Charleston AFB afgesproken en vanuit hier reden we gezamenlijk naar ons hotel . Hier kwamen wij tegen negen uur aan.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<section class='av_tab_section av_tab_section av-av_tab-79d6fabd1e73e4a84723d61fe480e6ce'  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div id='tab-id-8-tab' class='tab' role='tab' aria-selected=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\" data-fake-id='#tab-id-8' aria-controls='tab-id-8-content'  itemprop=\"headline\" >29 april 2016<\/div><div id='tab-id-8-content' class='tab_content' role='tabpanel' aria-labelledby='tab-id-8-tab' aria-hidden=\"true\"><div class='tab_inner_content invers-color'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Op vrijdag (29 april) stond allereerst stond het 82nd Airborne Museum op het programma. Echter, toen wij bij de poort aankwamen bleek dat wij buitenlanders er niet op mochten. Je hebt een \u2018sponsor\u2019 nodig terwijl op de site staat dat je wel vrij toegang hebt (achteraf bevestigde het museum aan ons dat de mensen aan de poort ons degelijk toegang hadden moeten geven). Nu hebben dit soort discussies geen zin dus besloten wij maar om door te rijden naar ons hoofddoel van deze dag; de open dag op MCAS Cherry Point. Ook hier was vanuit Nederland voor iedereen perstoegang geregeld. Na de formaliteiten te hebben geregeld werden wij in groepjes naar de baan gebracht waar een apart gedeelte voor ons was ingericht. We konden ons vrij bewegen dus dat was wel lekker. Ook het eten en drinken was direct om handen dus ook hier was aan gedacht. Na de bewolking kwam de zon af en toe weer terug en juist toen voor ons het leukste gedeelte van de dag aanbrak, kwam de zon ook. VMAQT-1, vliegende met EA-6B Prowlers nam afscheid van deze kist en wordt opgeheven. Met drie Prowlers werd in stijl een afscheidsformatie gevlogen. Vlak hiervoor kwamen nog enkele deelnemers aan de open dag binnen; twee F-16CM\u2019s van McEntire en een WC-130J Hurricane Hunter. Na de EA-6B fly past was iedereen zeer tevreden met het resultaat. Het werd al snel donker en de avondshow begon met onder andere een MiG-17 (Lim-5) die met een lekkere steekvlam vlak boven de baan voorbij kwam blazen. Geweldig om te zien. Omdat wij nog een behoorlijk stuk naar ons hotel moesten rijden besloten we niet al te laat weg te gaan; helaas konden wij de twilight show niet afkijken (echter, toen wij uiteindelijk het veld afreden was de show ook afgelopen).\u00a0 Na ruim een uurtje rijden bij het hotel aangekomen en konden we eindelijk genieten van een welverdiende nachtrust.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<section class='av_tab_section av_tab_section av-av_tab-483a94b3bf03c3a5e5e183d19d12a62b'  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div id='tab-id-9-tab' class='tab' role='tab' aria-selected=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\" data-fake-id='#tab-id-9' aria-controls='tab-id-9-content'  itemprop=\"headline\" >30 april 2016<\/div><div id='tab-id-9-content' class='tab_content' role='tabpanel' aria-labelledby='tab-id-9-tab' aria-hidden=\"true\"><div class='tab_inner_content invers-color'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Op zaterdag 30 april om half zeven vertrokken en rond acht uur weer gemeld bij de mensen die ons opnieuw de perskaart moesten gaan verstrekken. De administratie was weer anders dan gisteren maar uiteindelijk kregen wij onze passen.\u00a0 Het vervoer naar onze plek op het veld gingen weer in groepjes en de laatsten waren rond half tien op de plaats van bestemming. Nu begon het vliegen toch pas in de loop van de ochtend en het was toch bewolkt. Een aantal van ons besloot langs de flightline met diverse Harriers, EA-6B\u2019s en de Ospreys en CH-53\u2019s bij het onderhoudsgedeelte, te lopen en ze ook te fotograferen. Er werd ons geen strobreed in de weg gelegd. Alles ging lekker relaxt. De Blue Angels gaven hun show plus er was een demo van een Canadese CF-188 Hornet in speciale kleuren. De Raptor demo werd gevlogen met een \u00b4TY\u00b4 F-22A . Ook de air power demo was leuk maar omdat de bewolking onder de 1500 ft was konden de Hornets\/AV-8B\u2019s niet opstijgen om met de demo mee te doen. Dat was wel weer jammer maar gelukkig waren de CH-53E, Cobra, Huey en Ospreys goed te fotograferen. Al met al weer een geslaagde dag en het had weer wat voeten in de aarde om het veld af te komen. We hadden op het veld gehoord dat er enkele KC-130J\u2019s op een veld in de buurt zouden staan. Tja, wat doen je dan? Er langs natuurlijk en nog drie KC-130J\u2019s die uit Europa kwamen meegepakt en nog een C-123 en een preserved AV-8A.\u00a0 Om half twaalf waren we pas bij ons hotel in Richmond. Het was al een latertje en de mevrouw achter de balie vertelde dat ze geen kamers meer voor ons had\u2026 Na aandringen en hulp van een opgetrommelde collega werden onze reserveringen gevonden en konden we alsnog naar onze kamer. Jammer, de trip komt bijna ten einde. Zelfs het weer had zich hieraan aangepast; het regende. Tegenover het motel van de nacht was het museum van Richmond en hier staan een A-7D en een F-14D buiten. Na deze op de plaat te hebben vastgelegd naar het Smithsonian Museum bij het vliegveld van Washington gereden. Hier hadden wij zo\u2019n twee uur de tijd om dit mooie museum te bezichtigen. Er staan hier vele leuke kisten en zelfs een originele Space Shuttle. Je verbaast je toch weer hoe groot zo\u2019n ding echt is. Na dit bezoek naar het vliegveld gereden en onze auto\u2019s ingeleverd, ingecheckt en afscheid genomen van een Franse reisgenoot. Met dezelfde 19 man als op de heenreis daarna naar Amsterdam met wederom een KLM-Air France A330-300. De terugvlucht verliep voorspoedig. Om zeven uur \u2019s ochtends op de Polderbaan geland. Het was inmiddels maandag 2 mei en het zat er weer op.
