In 2010 we travelled to Morocco for the first time. The goal of the visit was the Aero-Expo at Marrakech-Menara Airport. A trade-show with a military element.

From 27 to 31 January 2010, a group of 8 travellers visited Morocco, to view the second edition of the Aero-Expo at Marrakech-Menara. This is a relatively small event, deriving its charm in part from the presence of Moroccan Air Force aircraft and the beautiful weather in January.

The flights to and from Morocco were chosen in such a manner that everyone could head for Schiphol on a comfortable time of the day. After the flight towards Morocco, we landed at Marrakech just before dawn. Na a quick peak at the static, and noting some visitors we took up our seats in the taxi vans that were waiting.

On Thursday, 28 January, we were present at the entrance of the expo well in time. Once inside it soon became clear that the event showed a lot of resemblance to the edition that took place two years earlier. On other words; an interesting number of types of the Moroccan Air Force, combined with a number of civil aircraft. Thanks to the nice weather and the willingness of several people present, that aircraft at the static could be photographed quite well. The air demonstration for the day was limited. More aircraft were scheduled for the next day. The taxi brought us back to the hotel at the end of the afternoon. We decided to get acquainted to the hectic atmosphere of the local souk in the centre of the city that evening.

Since we knew that the Friday was to show its first interesting happening during the afternoon, we decided to spend part of the morning by visiting the city-centre again. Around 11 ‘o clock we headed for the Aero-Expo. The weather was marvellous again and, while waiting for the aerial demonstration, the static was visited again. We decided to stay on the premises of the expo during the air show. We knew we would be facing the sun when the 4 Moroccan Alpha Jets and 2 F-5Fs (‘attached’ to a C-130 tanker) passed by. At the end of the second day everybody was happy with the result, therefore concluding that there was no need to visit the event on Saturday again.
