Tour – Colombia – F-Air 2017 – July 2017 – 4Aviation

    Information

    The next edition of the F-Air in Colombia will take place in 2017, from 13 to 16 July. This event, a combination of a trade show and a public air show, offers a fine opportunity to see and photograph several aircraft of the Colombian Air Force. Like in 2013 and 2015, 4Aviation intends to organise a short tour to this event. For this tour we are working together with Paolo again, an Italian guy that has been living in Bogota for a couple of years now (and has been organising aviation tours for a longer time). Also have a look at the reports of the tours in 2013 and 2015.

    Itinerary

    The itinerary that follows is to be considered as preliminary.

    On Sunday 9 July we will fly to Bogota and return to the Netherlands on Monday 17 July 2017.

    The preliminary itinerary is as follows;

    After arrival in Bogota and a night in the Movich hotel (which is more or less located on the airport, and our hotel for all nights in Bogota) and an early breakfast we will head for Tolemaida on Monday 10 July. This army air base holds several types of the Colombian Army (Mi-17, UH-1 and UH-60). Near Tolemaida we can find Melgar, which is an air force base with choppers. We will certainly take a quick peek here at least. That evening we will sleep in Bogota again.

    On Tuesday 11 July we will travel to Villavicencio by coach, departing early. At this airport (not the military base) a large number of airline companies are based operating propliners (mostly Dakota’s). We will be given at tour to see all these companies. During our visit in 2013 we saw military aircraft here as well, besides a number of very nice Dakota´s. From Villavicencio we can make a one hour flight in a Dakota of Air Colombia (66 USD minimum 20 participants). In the afternoon we will head back for Bogota.

    Wednesday 12 July we will visit two large locations of the Police Aviation that belong to the antinarcotic department of the Colombian Police. First we will go to the airport of Guaymaral, in the north of the town where we will see their many UH-1s and Black Hawks, and many other small aircraft. Afther that we will go to the Diran (Direccion Nacional Antinarcoticos), inside Eldorado Airport to see their larger fixed aircraft (ATR-42, Metro, BT-63, Twin Otter, Dash-8). Overnight in Bogota again.

    On Thursday 13 July we will move (by plane from Bogota to Medellin) to Hotel Movich Las Lomas in the morning and drop off our luggage there before we head to the F-Air. We will visit the show on Friday 14 July as well.

    On Saturday 15 July we will fly back to Bogota (after we have visited the show again). We will spend the night in Bogota again. We will try to organise a visit at Cali for the Air Force Academy on this Saturday. If this succeeds we will fly to Cali first on Saturday before heading to Bogota (at no extra charges).

    On Sunday 16 July we will go to Jaime Duque Park where the new air force museum is located. In the afternoon we will then photograph aircraft at Bogota / El Dorado from the outside until it is time to check in for the return flight.

    At this moment the visits have not been confirmed yet, since they are partially dependant on the names of the participants. On previous tours permission for the visits that are mentioned was obtained.
